Welcome back Eagles! I hope you've all had an amazing summer and made great memories! I was able to take a little time and travel with my family which definitely filled my soul up! I cannot wait to see all of our returning students and get to know our new Eagles! We currently have about 740 students to greet on Day 1! 😍
For those families joining us this year, my name is Jessica Shults, and I have the honor of being the principal here at Voss. I am so excited that your family is joining our school and I’m thrilled to partner with you as we work to empower every child to thrive as a lifelong learner and engaged citizen!

Please read through it each week as this is where you'll find most information about what's happening at Voss. There will be information that continues each week, such as the link to complete a background check, so families know they can always find it here. There will also be new information each week. In addition to being emailed, it will also be posted on our website and our Facebook page.

All students and families are welcome to attend this optional event to pick up schedules, take a self guided tour of the school, drop off Kleenex and paper towels, drop off medicine for the nurse, join PTO, buy spirit wear, pick up uniforms, meet friends, and make memories for the 2026-27 school year! Planners will be available as a part of our Eaglette's Dance Team fundraiser. Planners will not be required by all students. They will be optional.
Campus administration, counselors, and office staff will be available. Our teachers will not be on campus as they will be in professional learning on this day.
We will have a short welcome orientation for new students. Returning students are also welcome to attend. This will take place from 9:00-9:30 in the cafeteria. A slideshow presentation will have many details about the upcoming school year and will be available in that week's Friday newsletter for families that are unable to attend.
If you are unable to attend, that's okay! We know these are the last few days of summer and we hope you're enjoying them! Beginning the morning of August 6th, student schedules will be available in Skyward. All students will still get a brand new copy of their schedules on the first day of school and we will have staff all around the building helping guide our students.
We will not hand out student IDs during Flight Camp this year as not all student IDs will be available. Returning students in 7th and 8th grade will receive them the first week of school. Incoming 6th graders and all new to Voss 7th and 8th graders will begin receiving their IDs following our student picture days on 8/25 and 8/26.
All students will continue to wear a colored lanyard with their ID - color coded by grade level. The first lanyard will be provided by the school. You are welcome to purchase one on your own, however, it will need to be the designated color.

This year Voss is holding a fundraiser where 100% of the donations benefit VMS students and staff! What is it, you ask? Well, it’s simple. Just make a donation to the VMS S.O.A.R. campaign!
The donations will be used to fund activities that might not otherwise be possible by rewarding students and staff for their efforts and success. This includes field trips, parties, school dances, attendance incentives, Outstanding Student incentives, Perfect Attendance incentives, staff celebrations, student academics, behavior & character incentives and more!
If you’d like to help VMS achieve their 2026-2027 goal, please complete the bottom portion of this form and return it to the front office along with your donation or you can use the RevTrek link by scanning the QR code and make an online donation!
*This is a campus fundraiser and not a part of our awesome PTO. This will be available all year. After a few weeks, the links will remain active in the bottom section of the weekly newsletter under "Helpful Links".

Day 1
- New families needing to enroll, will go to the main office.
- All 6th grade students will pick up a new colored schedule from the gym.
- All 7th and 8th grade students will pick up a new colored schedule from the cafeteria.
- This will replace the white one they received during Flight Camp.
- Students must have the colored copy to enter first period as some schedules will have changed for various reasons.
- After picking up schedules, 6th graders will stay in the gym, 7th grade boys athletics will go to the gym, remaining 7th graders will stay in the cafeteria, and all 8th graders will stay in the cafeteria.
- All food and drink will be consumed in the cafeteria. Energy drinks, and coffee/tea drinks may not leave the cafeteria. Students will throw them away if they have them in the halls.
Daily Beginning on day 2
- 6th graders will go to the gym.
- 7th grade boy athletics will go to the gym.
- Besides water, no food or drinks are allowed in the gym.
- Remaining 7th graders (girls and boys not in athletics) will go to the cafeteria.
- 8th graders will go to the cafeteria/patio.
- Students will stay in their designated areas until the bell.
- The first bell rings at 8:25 to dismiss students from these locations.
- Students will go to 1st/5th period.
- The tardy bell will ring at 8:30.
- If arriving after 8:30, students will go to the office to get a tardy pass. *Tardies will begin on Monday, August 17th.
- Students that bring drinks to school other than water may drink them in the cafeteria during breakfast times. Students are not permitted to take hot/cold drinks other than water into classes. They will throw them away if they have them in the halls.
- Attendance Notes - Students may drop off parent notes at the office before going to their morning location.
- Tutoring - Teachers will communicate to parents what days they will offer before and after school tutoring as well as when it will begin. Students will receive a pass from the teacher to show the next morning.

HB 1481 defines a communications device: “Devices covered under this law include but are not limited to: cell phones (smart phones or flip phones), tablets, smartwatches, radios, pagers, personal laptops, AI glasses, and any other device capable of telecommunication or digital communication.”
All students will be allowed to have their devices, Off and Away for the Day, in their backpacks or on their person for safety.
Any inappropriate use of a communications device can result in the device being confiscated and possible disciplinary actions.
We are committed to implementing this new law in compliance with state and TEA guidelines. As those become available to school districts, Boerne ISD will continue refining our processes.
We want our community to know that every classroom is equipped with landlines, and students will be able to use those phones with teacher permission if they need to contact their parents. Landlines in classrooms are the most accurate means for law enforcement to identify the location of a call in the event of an emergency, and these will remain in all classrooms for this important safety reason.

Boerne ISD's Child Nutrition department is excited to welcome students and staff members for the new school year. The department's website provides information on everything you need to know when it comes to your student's school meals and nutrition. Here are a few of the most requested areas.

Breakfast: $2.30 (paid) free and reduced (no cost) for students.

Lunch: Elementary - $3.40 (paid) $0.00 (reduced), Middle and High schools - $3.65 (paid) $0.00 (reduced)
- As of September 1, 2025, students receiving reduced lunch will receive the benefits of free breakfast and lunch for two years. Students must qualify annually.
Meal Charges
Students are expected to have funds available for the purchase of their meals. However, students who do not have funds in their accounts will be allowed to charge up to $50. Once a student's account falls to a negative balance, an email notification letter will be sent to the household informing them of the negative balance. Students are not allowed to charge any extra items including second portions, a la carte snacks and ice cream if funds are not available.
The Boerne ISD Child Nutrition department introduced a new online system for managing student lunch accounts and making payments last year. The new platform, PaySchools, offers a convenient and user-friendly experience for families.
Through the family portal, parents and guardians can easily stay informed and in control of their child's meal account.

Please follow this process when dropping off lunch for you child. This is for lunch boxes and/or outside food. This process will assist in less classroom disruption to protect the instruction time. Food may only be dropped off for your child. Safety concerns prohibit parents providing food for other students. Large orders of outside food that are sent in, will be returned if more than one order is present - this includes pizzas, Chick-Fil-A, McDonald's etc.
- Please make sure they know it is going to be dropped off.
- When entering the office, there is a cubby to drop them.
- Each cubby is labeled by lunch (Lunch 1, Lunch 2, Lunch 3)
- Please write your child's name & lunch period on the post it note that is provided.
- The cart will be delivered to the cafeteria for students to pick them up.

We will continue our same drop off and pick up traffic pattern for the 26-27 school year which was successful in helping take traffic off of Hwy 46 quicker. It did not take it away completely or make the pick up go any quicker, however, the goal was to move vehicles off the Hwy as quickly as possible. For afternoon pickup, we will ask families to put a sign in their window to help students get into vehicles quicker. Please talk to your child about pick up time - watching for their ride, minimizing cell phone time, listening for names to be called, etc.
We know the first couple of weeks can be busy and sometimes confusing, so we sincerely appreciate your patience and support as our staff welcome and dismiss students each day. Your support is essential to keeping our students safe and our campus running smoothly.
Please note: During both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, parents will not be permitted to park in the school lots, and students will not be allowed to cross through the parking areas. This is a critical safety measure to keep all students out of traffic zones and moving safely to and from vehicles.

A great communication tool to help stay connected with the school is through your child's Skyward account. Below is a step-by-step guide on how you can set up Grade and Attendance alerts. These alerts are set by you and you'll then receive notification when your student is absent, tardy, or has a grade below whatever threshold you set. Missing grades equal a 0 in the grade book. This is a temporary placeholder until the assignment has been submitted and graded and is meant to spark a home discussion between parents and their student. Continuing this year, students will leave toys and personal sports balls or equipment at home.
If a student does bring a ball (football, tennis, hacky sack, etc) or other equipment from home, it will be collected by a teacher and kept in the office until a parent or guardian can pick it up at the end of the day. At the end of each month, any balls that have not been collected by a parent or guardian will be donated. These items will not be handed back to students at dismissal, since using them after school creates safety concerns on the bus, and delays car pickup.

- While the deadline to order online has passed, we will have a few limited options to purchase at flight camp along with order pick up. New legislation allows school nurses to administer non-prescription/over-the-counter medications with written parent permission. Medication will need to be brought in by the parent or guardian and it must be in the original container. Stay tuned for more information.
Texas State Law requires all incoming 7th graders to have a T-dap within the past 5 years and a meningococcal vaccine before the 2025/2026 school year. Please submit updated records for any grade level to angela.kontor@boerneisd.net. For exemptions, please note that the ORIGINAL, notarized affidavit must be on file. Please note that student schedules will not be provided until this requirement is met.
If your student has a medical condition that needs to be discussed with the nurse OR if you need to drop off medications, please contact angela.kontor@boerneisd.net to make an appointment.
Action plans for food allergies, asthma, seizures, and diabetes should be updated yearly and completed by the student's physician before the school year begins. These forms can be found under the Health Services tab on the BISD website.
